Finishing the Basement

Then the pandemic happened. Chad was working from home. My sister dropped in for several weeks (with the best niece in the world), to wait out part of the quarantine in Utah instead of California. Suddenly, our house was too small. And we had all of our 2020 travel budget all dressed up and nowhere to go.

August Races

Chad had found this race several years ago and signed us up and apparently we were still on their emailing list. I was glad to see that this is a yearly event and the medals are super cool EVERY YEAR. The only thing that would make them cooler is if Michael J Fox came with them.

The Laundry Room

In our condo, the laundry “room” was a closet adjacent to the kitchen. When we started building the house, I had been imagining our new Laundry Room as a grand mecca of organization. A space that would not only do the laundry practically by itself, but also hem all the pants I’m hoarding in the event that I actually get around to adjusting them for my midget height.

Backyard Water Feature

Over the previous summer, Chad had been making a few comments about the waterfall. It bothered him that you could see the exposed backing from the side. He hated the metal trim that he had put in place to keep the wood from rotting. It annoyed both of us how quickly the well/bucket would run out of water.

June Races

Back in January, June was going to be a rough month. In that we planned to participate in two half marathons that would give us good proof of time for races that would take place later in the year. As it became clearer (in April) and clearer (in May) that our main fall running event wouldn’t be taking place, I decided that we didn’t need to kill ourselves with half marathons in June anymore – especially if those half marathons would be virtual.

The New Guest Bathroom

To start, I dug up an email that had the original blueprints for the house, and used a program to draw out new plans for the basement. It was then that I noticed that the bathroom that our builders designed was really strange. Fortunately, for a small fee (in the grand scheme of things) we could have all of that dug up and moved around, since I still wanted the bathroom in that general location.
