When I sat down and thought about it, I realized that I don’t have a deep need to buy a crummy house in a perfect neighborhood just to spend every cent we have and twenty years or more making it into something stripped of horrible floor plans or ill-advised 90s renovations. I may be handy but I don’t relish the thought of pulling up linoleum and carpeting or coercing family members to come help tile our bathroom just to save a few hundred bucks just so I can blog about it with pretty “after” pictures.

We cleaned out so much stuff that an entire cabinet, which was previously being used as a BBQ/small appliance cabinet, is now able to house larger cookware and our cookbook collection. The cookbooks that were previously in the office instead of the kitchen. There was a good reason for cookbooks to be outside of the kitchen: we always did our menu planning in the office. But my heart feels happy that they are now in the kitchen. Until we move.
We participated in three 10ks and six half marathons across four states and two countries; and ran in six states if you add Colorado and Illinois just for fun (no official events).
While we were waiting in line for a ride in Disney World – you know, right after running twice in 100% humidity, Chad and I got an email about the Inaugural Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon and I willingly committed to running another Disney event for 2014. Because, Disney.
For the past few years, Chad and I have been working on a family tradition with a name we most certainly did not borrow from ABC Family: 25 Days of Christmas. In fact, I know a lot of families with little kids do this – sometimes with events, sometimes with chocolates. Chad and I are like children, so obviously this appeals to us.
Right after I came home from the Princess Half Marathon Weekend, my friend, Lindsey, asked me if I would be interested in running the Lululemon SeaWheeze Half Marathon in Vancouver. This was different than the before-I-ran-a-half-marathon sign-up insanity. I had run TWO half marathons at this point, one in 100% humidity. I honestly don’t know why I said, “Yes.” Maybe a desire to see the beautiful Vancouver. Or to run a half marathon with my bestie. Or maybe the sunset festival sounded fun. Most likely it was the promise of yet another medal for my collection.
Regardless, I signed us up right when the registration opened and secured each of us a spot and we were well on our way to a fun ladies weekend that happened to involve running a half marathon along the shoreline of Vancouver, Canada.
Which is about where I saw a sign near a puddle that said, “No boating or swimming.” Ok, maybe it wasn’t a puddle. But it was practically a puddle you guys. It was in the middle of a residential/commercial area. It was smaller than your average backyard pond. If such a thing is actually average.
