Avengers Super Heroes Half 2014

When I first signed up for the Tinker Bell Half Marathon and the Glass Slipper Challenge, I thought that I would be running two half marathons in 2014 and call it a year. Then Chad signed us up for the Salt Lake Half Marathon last December, and shortly after that my good friend, Lindsey, convinced me to do the SeaWheeze with her. While we were waiting in line for a ride in Disney World – you know, right after running twice in 100% humidity, Chad and I got an email about the Inaugural Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon and I willingly committed to running another Disney event for 2014. Because, Disney.

Then the family decided to squeeze one more in and did the Drop 13 Half Marathon.

So, my sixth half marathon for this year was set to be the Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon, I would have said “final” but the year isn’t over yet. It was also the longest amount of time between half marathons; January, February, April, June, August, and November. I trained with the goal that I would get under 2 hours, but knowing that I had done it in three other races so far, I didn’t kill myself training either.

This was another themed run, meaning that people dress up to run. Because running 13.1 miles at 5:30 AM just isn’t crazy enough. Chad diligently worked on creating a Captain America running costume and I ditched the tutu (my costume for the previous Disney runs) to be Agent Maria Hill. Mostly because I could get away wearing regular black running pants and a track jacket.

The morning of the race we were met with warm temperatures, 14,000 costumed runners, and a little wind. That little wind turned into a big wind – or the Santa Ana’s as they are called, my only previous knowledge of them being that they were discussed in The Holiday. And if I learned anything from The Holiday, other than that my hatred for Cameron Diaz’s character will never deter me from watching it 7000+ times, it’s that when the Santa Ana’s blow, all bets are off.

After smashing records we went to the park to enjoy Christmas Time at Disney – which is pretty much the only place where I don’t get annoyed about Christmas before Thanksgiving. We did a lot in two days including experiencing the World of Color, riding Indiana Jones a million times, and spending a day (in Disneyland) with Maranda and Branson – friends of ours who moved to San Diego a while back.

CA Avengers

We had an excellent time, especially enjoying the warm weather. No more “on to the next” this year… since our next currently scheduled run is in April. You guys, I still can’t believe I ran 6 half marathons this year!
